Introducing the Intonation WizardTM

The Zaret Intonation Wizard

For decades the only way to help students improve intonation on stringed instruments was to put a small strip of plastic tape on the fingerboard where the problem occurs. The plastic tape usually is serviceable for a limited time before it slides and therefore must be repositioned or replaced. The tape also leaves a sticky mess on the instrument which makes it harder for students to learn.

The Intonation Wizard™ is a unique 3D strip device that allows a beginning bowed string player (violin family of instruments) to play in tune without looking at finger placement tapes. This device allows the student to FEEL where to place the finger rather than having to constantly look at the tapes and their fingers and at the same time look at the music.

The Zaret Intonation Wizard™ is specifically designed to stay in place until the student has learned the correct intonation. It is also easy to peel and is reusable. This material feels great to the touch yet is durable and will not leave residue on your instrument.

The standard way the advanced player plays in tune is done mostly by feel. Therefore the Zaret Intonation Wizard™ not only accomplishes the task of the student playing better in tune as a beginner, but also in learning to FEEL where the pitches are and in turn more carefully follow the music.

Moreover, for cellists and bass players it is much more difficult than for violinists and violists to at one time look at the placement tapes and fingers and then turn the head to see the music.

Our Zaret Intonation Wizard™ works for all sizes of violins, violas, cellos and basses, from a 1/32 size violin all the way up to a 3/4 size upright bass. If handled carefully one set of finger placement ridges on the Intonation Wizard can handle up to 2 or 3 instruments.

The ridges are arranged vertically, and the teacher cuts each strip horizontally. The ridges are arranged from the smallest instruments to the largest. The cuts are made accordingly.
