Mathias Neuner Violin, c.1812, 1/2 size


Mathias Neüner (b.1762, d.1832) was born into a geigenmacher – violin maker – family in Mittenwald, Germany. Each member was trained to specialize in a unique aspect of the craft. Neüner’s family workshop based some designs on traditional Italian models, creating violins and cellos, among other string instruments. The shop employed many apprentices and was well-known in the region.
